Sep 15 (Monday) – The Hotel des Invalides

Morning views of Notre Dame.

Today we had nothing booked so decided that we would visit the Hotels des Invalides.  This building was originally a hospital and home for wounded soldiers.

It still serves its original purpose but also now houses a military museum,

a museum of miniature cities (relief plans),

and the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The tomb is under the dome of the Church of the Dôme (Domes des Invalides).

The exterior of the church dome has a lot of gold on it, making it easily recognizable.  And the dome is so high that it can be seen from much of Paris.

And from various places on our journey around Paris we caught glimpses of the Eiffel Tower.

We went back to the hotel from the Hotel des Invalides.
