Aug 24 (Sunday) – A Lazy Day and the Sail Out

Today is a lazy day.  After a late night last night, we decided not to go to the Sail Out.  We can see many of the tall ships and the many little boats from our balcony.  So we sat in our room, worked on photos and such, and kept an eye out the window for activity.

First thing in the morning there were a lot of Kayakers paddling just outside our window.

We had lunch at the popup stand that the hotel set up just outside the hotel.  It is just under our balcony.

Shortly after lunch things started happening outside our window.  Tugs showed ups and started pulling tall, masted ships one by one from the dock and helping them turn around.

Some then set out on their own and others were accompanied for a while by the tugs.

In some of the larger ships the sailors took to the riggings, like ornaments on a Christmas tree.  They made impressive displays.

And there were huge crowds along all of the shores, watching as the ships sailed out.  It took a few hours before the bulk of the ships were gone.

We made dinner reservations at the hotel’s restaurant.  The food is Indonesian and is ok but isn’t really a favorite with us.  And because of the huge crowds the menu selection was very limited.  But we managed. 

We spent the evening packing as we leave tomorrow for a private five-day tour around parts of The Netherlands.
